Thank you for your interest in joining the Farmers & Makers Market at cSPACE, "Best Farmers Market" finalist in the 2019 Best of Calgary awards.

 

We are proud to be Calgary's largest, year-round community-based Farmers Market! We are certified by the Alberta Government as an "Alberta Approved Farmers Market", recognizing our commitment to providing a vibrant and well-rounded market with the highest quality locally made, baked and grown products, direct from the Calgary and area farmers, ranchers, bakers, food-makers, beverage producers, and craft artisans themselves.

We accept vendor applications on an on-going basis throughout the year depending on space available, however, our primary intake months are February/March for summer season and August/September for winter. We only accept Food Truck vendor applications for the summer season.

Please note that ALL food vendors must obtain their Farmers Market Food Safety Home Study Course Certification​ from Alberta Health Services, regardless of other Food Handling certifications, prior to vending at the market.

 

Here are the steps in the F&MM application process:

Familiarize yourself with the Alberta Approved Farmers Market program, administered by Alberta Agriculture and Forestry and provisioned by the Alberta Public Health Act food regulation. 

Are you a good fit? Carefully review our Vendor Handbook prior to moving on to Step 3. The Handbook contains essential information about requirements and expectations of participating in our market, and the objectives of our overarching operating NFP the Calgary Earth Market Society.

Ready to apply? Review the vendor category information below, and ensure you have on hand copies of all the required supporting documents appropriate to your type of product (requirements listed under vendor types below. 

Download the application appropriate to your vendor type, complete and submit along with pdf's of all the required supporting documents to applytofmm@gmail.com, AND ensure you send your application fee to earthmarketsociety@gmail.com at the same time. 

We'll review your application and be back to you asap!

Primary Producer Vendors

Field to Table, Pasture to Plate, Forage to Fork

We are very interested to hear from all types of Primary Producers, and especially local producers of:

  • dairy, including dairy products

  • bison, duck and lamb, including nose to tail frozen cuts and processed meats

  • grains and flours

  • pulses and legumes

  • herbs, herbal products from home/farm-grown plants

REQUIREMENTS
If you are the producer and your product is grown, raised or harvested in Alberta (or fruit from BC), you are eligible to sell with us. All vendors selling food (vegetables, fruit, dairy, meat, alcohol, etc.) must
have their Farmers Market Food Safety Home Study Course Certification​ AND follow the Information For Farmers Market Manager and Stallholders put out by Alberta Health Services. Please familiarize yourself with the information contained within this guide, and our Vendor Handbook before applying to become a vendor.

Prepared Food & beverage vendors

Home-Based or Small Scale Bakers, Food Makers & Beverage Producers

We are very interested to hear from all types of Prepared Food and Beverage Vendors, and especially for: 

  • gluten-free breads and baking

  • dairy products, including yogurt, kefir and cheese

  • locally-roasted coffee beans

  • Greek food

  • Locally-grown tea blends

  • high-ratio (50 -100%) locally-sourced and/or high-ratio organic foods

  • zero-waste or reusable packaging for your products and samples - we challenge you!

REQUIREMENTS
Your products must be made by yourself and preference will be given to products that use local ingredients. All Prepared Food vendors must have their Farmers Market Food Safety Home Study Course Certification​ AND follow the Information For Farmers Market Manager and Stallholders put out by Alberta Health Services. Please familiarize yourself with the information contained within this guide, and our Vendor Handbook before applying to become a Prepared Food vendor.

All prepared foods must pass our jury process AND be approved for sale by our local AHS inspector before being accepted to the market.

Craft Vendors

Our market includes a diverse community of vendors, and in concert with cSPACE King Edward, is a hub for local creative culture. Craft vendors enrich our market with beautiful and usable wares handmade with skills deeply rooted in our cultural traditions. Potters, blacksmiths, textile artisans, knitters, weavers, chandlers, glass blowers, jewelry artists, apothecary and other creatives are all part of this exciting category. 

We are especially seeking herbalists, potters, lamp-glass bead artisans, textile makers/printers/artisans, and basket and bag makers.  

REQUIREMENTS

Your products must be made by yourself, and preference will be given to original craft items that support or enhance Alberta agriculture and/or include locally-originating inputs. ie: local flowers and herbs used in wreaths or soap-making, local fibers or plant-dyes for textile products, handmade kitchen utensils & cookware, handmade produce bags & shopping totes, etc.

*We do not accept fine arts or items not handmade in Alberta. All crafts must pass our jury process before being accepted to the market

alcohol vendors

From local-fruit rich fruit wines and exceptional ciders, to unique spirits, to great craft beer and mead, Alberta alcoholic beverage-makers are welcome at our Alberta Approved Farmers Market! 

 

REQUIREMENTS

Producers wanting to join the market must arrange a Farmers Market extension to their AGLC Class D license in order to vend, and must be ensure their at-market representative has current ProServe certification.

Food Trucks 

Ready-to-eat food and beverage, to stay or to go

Market Saturdays are foodie & family weekly events where the only hot food and ready to eat meals are provided by Calgary's best food trucks. Each market we schedule 2 - 3 trucks with differing menus to provide ready-to-eat fresh-made favourites, refreshing beverages and seasonally inspired specialties for market-goers and cSPACE visitors.

 

We are interested to hear from all local food trucks, and especially from trucks able to offer:

  • breakfast/brunch option(s)

  • child-size portions of one or more dishes, or option to "split" a full-size portion

  • incentive pricing ie: 2 adult and 2 child for $ 

  • house-made or locally-made beverages instead of commercial brands

  • compostable serviceware and recycleable beverage containers

REQUIREMENTS

Food trucks are required to have a current Mobile Food Vending Permit from the City of Calgary, and at least one onsite staff member must have current Food Safety and Sanitation (or equivalent) certification in order to vend.

resale vendors

Our primary goal is to provide Calgarians a market full of local Alberta bounty, directly from the local makers, bakers and growers themselves. Less than 10% of the market mix is open to applications from Resale Vendors offering items considered to be essential to the market mix, but which are not available as made, baked or grown in Alberta by any other category of vendor.

These may include stainless steel or glass straws, zero-or-low-waste and environmentally-friendly house and home items including bamboo brushes, produce bags, and other items that meet basic or essential needs while being kind(er) to our planet!

Please refer to the Handbook for specific information for Resale Primary Vendors.

 

*We do not accept the following types of resale vendors:

  • Businesses that operate under a franchise agreement

  • Products offered via national or international distributorships (ie: Scentsy, Tupperware, Watkins, etc.)

  • Products made or grown outside of Alberta, BC or Saskatchewan

The Farmers & Makers Market is proud to serve as a small business incubator and champion for  the many wonderful local farms, nurseries, bakeries, meat and seafood providers, cheese makers, specialty food producers, artists and makers, vintners, brewers and distillers our area has to offer.  Every vendor is carefully screened with a commitment to creating a diverse marketplace with the highest quality locally produced products available.

Our founding market vendors and community supporters have established the Calgary Earth Market Society, becoming Calgary’s first “by-vendors, for-vendors” Farmers’ Market. Successful applicants to the market become voting members in this Society; and active voices in growing the success of their individual businesses along with market as a whole.
